Role Summary: Leads the architecture of web-facing applications. Sets web front-end standards, drives scalability and performance, and owns the evolution of design systems. Needs broad architectural knowledge with deep web expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the direction for web front-end architecture

• Design web architectures that scale and are easy to maintain

• Define coding standards, patterns, and best practice for web

• Lead technical design reviews for web UI and UX decisions

• Own the overarching design system strategy, including reusable component libraries

• Drive web application performance, accessibility, and rendering efficiency

• Make sure things work well across browsers and devices

• Lead accessibility adoption and adherence to WCAG

• Mentor engineers and help grow web capability

• Oversee code reviews and provide hands-on technical input

• Keep architectural documentation clear and up to date

• Champion responsive design approaches

• Explain architectural decisions clearly to senior stakeholders

Decision Making Authority

• The go-to authority on web front-end architecture

• Owns the overarching design system strategy

• Balances short-term delivery needs against long-term thinking

Technical Skills

Core technologies: Svelte, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript

Architecture and design: Component-based architecture, state management (e.g. Svelte stores), progressive web applications, micro-frontend patterns

Performance and quality: Performance profiling and optimisation (Core Web Vitals, rendering), accessibility standards and testing, front-end testing frameworks, code quality practices

Integration: API consumption and integration patterns, REST and GraphQL where applicable.
